DENVER POSITIVE TRAIN CONTROL
ISR's ROLE
• Evaluate Client’s RF Coverage Design
• RF Site Surveys
• Optimization of Sites to Ensure Coverage on ROW
• 1st WiMAX PTC Development in USA
• Mentum Planet Analysis of RF Coverage |
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
ISR was recently added to the Denver PTC program to perform Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering surveys in support of the design of PTC base stations for three commuter rail lines in Denver, Colorado. ISR used the preliminary Nomad Digital design and survey results to model the final design (of more than 40 base station sites) using Mentum Planet software. ISR further documented RF tower configurations for the final base station designs, including antenna centerline, azimuth(s), latitude/longitude, etc. which will be used for subsequent RF coverage analysis.
With input from the exiting design parameters (antenna height, antenna model, transmit power levels, etc.) into the Mentum Planet software, ISR generated the coverage plots/maps (individual site as well as composite coverage) to demonstrate predicted coverage. ISR provided report(s) based on gap analyses, highlighting any significant differences between the expected coverage from the design using the NIST tool and predicted coverage from the Mentum Planet software. ISR provided an assessment/comparison of the Denver WiMAX solution and more traditional PTC implementations in the 220MHz bands, in terms of bandwidth/throughput, redundancy, reliability, interference, etc. Finally, ISR prepared a report and supporting deliverables, including site photos and best practice suggestions for site designs and coverage. ISR participated in RF testing of a pilot site build-out to test the WiMAX network performance, and will continue on the next phases of the project providing RF network optimization and base station commissioning and testing services.
